Rainy Day Toast Decorating for Toddlers

A sweet, simple toddler-approved activity with minimal cleanup!

It has rained. And rained. And rained. For the past 2 weeks. We are soggy. We are humbled. But we have survived!

Now, I am no major opponent to a little cozy screen time cuddled up with my toddler on a rainy day, but when it rains for 2 weeks straight, you need activities.

When I was young, rainy days meant indoor picnics on the floor, gooey bubble potions in the bathtub, or concoctions of water and dry rices in big pots on the kitchen floor.

So this is the energy I approach a rainy day with, and I must say, it’s been successful, if a bit messy. But as my mom always taught me, a mess is a sign of a good time had!

I’ve seen a lot of Pinterest posts for toast painting/decorating, and that gave me the idea for a sweet toast spread made with cream cheese, Greek yogurt and honey that I mixed together with a whisk at room temp.

I added color with a little gel food dye and gave my toddler some spoons to spread the colors on the toast.

I also sliced up some strawberries and bananas and then made them into shapes with some little cookie cutters I already had. I really could have skipped this step because my toddler barely cared about the fruit once I gave him access to the bottle of sprinkles!

Thankfully, the mess was minimal, although we did have to change a shirt afterwards. A small price to pay for a little calm entertainment.

The toast was not really a hit snack with my toddler, he only ate 2 bites. But it was definitely a hit activity we will be doing again!
